Gideon is a marine professional with over 24 years’ experience combining 16 years in the Royal Navy and 8 years in Port Operations including as a Harbour Master. He is an Associate Fellow of the Nautical Institute, a member of the UK Maritime Pilots' Association, a holder of the UK Harbour Masters’ Association Certificate of Competence, and an ISM Lead Auditor. He has extensive experience in Marine Hazard Identification and Risk Assessment; Marine Accident and Incident Investigation; provision of specialist advice to and involvement in marine infrastructure projects: Marine Safety Management System development and operation; provision of Vessel Traffic Services; and Pilotage and Towage.
Chris is a Marine Engineer with over 40 years’ experience including as a Ships' engineering Officer (Chief Engineer), then as an Engineer Surveyor for Lloyds Register and the Canadian Coastguard, Senior Lecturer (Engineering) Warsash Maritime Centre, Technical Superintendent, Fleet Engineering Manager, Deputy Fleet Manager, Technical Director, and Regional Technical Manager. He is an Incorporated Engineer with the Engineering Council. He has experience of vessel technical management incorporating Tugs, Dredgers, Ro-Ro vessels, Bulk Carriers, Refrigerated Cargo ships, Container ships, General cargo vessels, Passenger vessels, Offshore vessels, and Conventional and High-Speed Ferries; Port state control inspections and flag surveys; Dry Docking procedures and preparation; ISM code implementation; Auditing; development and management of safety management and planned maintenance system; and has lectured and examined engineering trainee officers.
